Happy Hump Day! A Mid-Week Mixtape

itunes1

I started making mixtapes/CD’s for a few reasons, none of which originally had anything to do with blogging:

- I live in the southern nether regions of Miami.

- I work in the heart of downtown Fort Lauderdale (42 mile commute).

- Before this job I worked in Coral Springs (37 mile commute).

- Before that job I was in school at AIFL (35 mile commute).

- Let’s just suppose I spend a lot of time on the road (still with me?).Couple that with the reality that Miami really has some crappy radio ( I grew up in SF, where some semblance of decent rock and hip hop radio stations existed/exist. Does anyone remember KOME when it was alternative? )

This is a hump day mix. Wednesday’s infamy for being crappy, precludes my mix. I’m not sure if the mix can/will help anyone, but as I’m a generally delightful young man, whom everyone loves, you can’t help the helpless. It’s like taking aspirin when you need caffeine.

Below is a note or two on each track in the mix, short and sweet (just like a like my women). The following are like auditory tasting notes, except I won’t describe someone’s bassline as chocolaty with hints of peppery basil.

Happy Hump Day!!
Tracklisting

Seven Seas of Rye – Queen
It’s fucking Queen, how could you not love it.

Fee Da Da Dee – The Guggenheim Grotto
Synth intro is lovely

Brother Sport – Animal Collective
Music from another world, another time. Lots of blogs have said this is already the best album of 2009.

Can’t Stop Feeling – Franz Ferdinand
Great opening riff leads to great bassline with great vocal melody wrapped in a shit-hot drum beat
(isn’t this every FF song?)

Burn Bridges – The Grates
It’s got a clap track. Clap tracks are like cupcakes for a fat kid. This track is also is like if Rivers Cuomo impregnated Regina Spektor and their unborn child’s theme song got leaked onto the internets…

Darling Girl – The Rifles
I’m not sure why I left this on the mix. Black Sheep. Fuckery.

Crying – TV on the Radio
I have a theory that TV on the Radio is the new Genesis.

People C’mon – Delta Spirit
Travis with a better feel.

The Kids Don’t Stand a Chance – Vampire Weekend
This reminds me of being like 8 and the smell of crayons. No, I’m serious.

End Of The Summer On Bookbinder Road – Cocoanut Groove
I should’ve been born to make music in the late 60’s; these people share this sentiment as well it seems.

Street Spirit (Fade Out) – Radiohead
I like chill songs to end mixes. I love this song. Melody is haunting; the build-up is like a rush of, well a rush of, of chocolaty-ness with hints of peppery basil. (see what I did there?)

Loving these mixes. I’m almost inspired enough to get off my lazy ass and make a few.

  2. Rivers Cuomo Lyrics…

That was a very difficult experience, because I think once you go through something like that and you are able to continue making albums, you’re pretty much good for the rest of your time….
